12 Nov. - Arrival - Addis Ababa
Arrive at Bole International Airport. An Awaze Tours representative will meet you and take you to your hotel. For morning arrivals, option to visit the Ethnographic Museum, a great introduction to Ethiopian culture and history and visit the Trinity Cathedral, resting place of Emperor Haile Selassie. 
13 Nov. -   Addis -  Lalibela
Fly to Lalibela on Ethiopian Airlines. Tour the magnificent rock- hewn churches of Lalibela, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This group of eleven monolithic and semi-monolithic structures were carved directly into the stone of the mountainside at least 800 years ago. This complex boasts the largest monolithic church in the world, a maze of passageways and tunnels, intricately carved reliefs, and fabulous examples of icon paintings. Lunch at the famous Ben Abeba restaurant with it’s fantastic views. Dinner at hotel.

14 Nov. -   Lalibela
For the morning the group has two choices: Take a morning hike with mules to Mount Asheton, with its 13th century rock-hewn monastery and great views of the town; - OR - Drive to Yemrehanna Kristos, a beautiful church situated in a shallow cave that predates the churches of Lalibela. The drive to Yemrehanna will also give you the opportunity to view the rural countryside and villages of the Ethiopian highlands. Lunch at the Kana Restaurant or Seven Olives. Continue with tour of Lalibela’s churches in the afternoon. Dinner at hotel.

15 Nov. -   Lalibela - Addis Ababa
Fly to Addis Ababa.  Eat lunch at the Taitu Hotel, Addis Ababa's oldest.  Drive to Entoto Hills for an optional easy afternoon run. This is the same area where some of Ethiopia’s great runners train.

16 Nov. -  Addis Ababa
This morning pick up your race number and relax at the hotel.  Optional souvenir shopping or visit on of the local markets.  In the early evening, attend the official Great Ethiopian Run’s pasta party.

17 Nov. -    Addis Ababa
Race Day for the Great Ethiopian Run. In the morning, Awaze Tours will escort you to the starting. After the race, enjoy Great Ethiopian Run post race party. Return to hotel for relaxation. Dinner at a traditional Ethiopian Restaurant featuring dancers and musicians representing some of the country’s various ethnic groups.

18 Nov. -  Addis Ababa - Asmara
Fly to Asmara and take a city tour of this beautiful city’s highlights.  (Activities to be posted soon.)

19 Nov. -    Asmara - Massawa
Drive to Massawa  on the Red Sea coast. The scenery on the drive is magnificent as you descend 2,000 meters from the highlands to the coast.  Massawa port has been devastated by war and embargo but peace has brought new hope for its future.  Walking among the semi-deserted streets of this historic town is both a sobering and awe-inspiring experience.  In the late afternoon, cool off with a swim in the clear waters of the Red Sea.

20 Nov. -    Massawa - Asmara
Return to Asmara and continue touring sites.  (Activities to be posted soon.)

Fly from Asmara to Addis Ababa to connect to international flight home.
